CANDIDATE STATEMENT

I handed out my first palm card at age 3, for my father, an elected official in the state of Oklahoma. I learned everything I know about civic duty and public responsibility from him. After spending most of my adult life in Greenwich, Connecticut, I came to Sarasota to continue my career and pursue my passion for public service, and have concentrated on education and the arts. Professionally, I am the Arts Editor for Living Out East and On the Bay magazine, development consultant for arts organizations, and pursue an active career as a professional pianist. Additional experience of note includes a term as WHITE HOUSE INTERN, and I am one of the founders of LEXIS/NEXIS, the international data search system. I believe local government is the most important level of government for all of us. It affects us the most directly and personally. We have an obligation to be constantly vigilant of the responsibilities and actions of all office-holders, and should hold them to the highest degree of performance. To do less is to disregard the foundations of our democracy. I pledge to serve Sarasota County honestly and thoughtfully.
