Mikael Sandstrom was born in Halmstad, Sweden. In 1986, his parents decided to immigrate to the United States and chose Sarasota, Fl as their destination. They opened Olivia Boutique on St. Armands Circle. His mother has a background in education, psychology and business while his father has a background in law, business, and a distinguished author. Mikael is an executive board member at Sweden Trade, Inc.
Mikael graduated from Sarasota High School in 2002 and University of Central Florida in 2007. He got a degree in Interdisciplinary Studies, which included an extensive amount of classes in business, psychology, sociology, and information technology. While studying at UCF, he began an interest in politics so after graduation, he moved to Washington D.C. and began work with the 2008 Libertarian for presidential campaign.
After the election, Mikael decided to move back to Sweden and study political science because he knew it would help him become more well rounded. During the 2012 election, he was in the middle of Sweden’s harsh winter but still studied the election intensively.
His fascination with politics made the decision to run for city commissioner a little bit easier. He has studied and worked with people that stretch left and right on the political spectrum and as a result, it’s given him a unique outlook on local responsibilities.
