Sarasota County, FL - Board of Elections

Candidate Statement

John Scolaro

I am an academic activist with a Jeffersonian approach to all things government. Government should be tightly controlled, never broad or over-reaching, fiscally responsible and constrained to follow the Constitution along with the letter and spirit of the law. Needless to say in SRQ our home-rule people's charter should and must be followed.

I have spoken before all of the Sarasota County Boards numerous times as well the Sarasota County School Board. I was active in defeating Amendment 4 this past state-wide election cycle because it would have substantially grown the scope, size and cost of government. I am currently working to have term limits enforced as was passed by an overwhelming majority of Sarasota Citizens back in 1998 and added to our Charter.

I have lived in Venice for over 20 years. I am originally from New York and received my education at the University of Miami. I am a practical Catholic active in Epiphany Cathedral Parish. I am a Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus and a past Board Member of my home-owners association.

Most importantly, I have been married for over 12 years and my wife and I have 2 delightful daughters ages 9 and 11. I would serve you the people on the Charter Review Board to facilitate the return of County government to you the taxpayer.
